LongShips connects premium macadamia producers in Southern Africa with buyers worldwide, handling grading, logistics and contracts with full transparency.
LongShips was founded by two friends from the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal, one of South Africa's most productive agricultural heartlands. With 13 years of friendship and complementary careers behind them, James and Julian set out to build something different: a brokerage that puts long-lasting relationships with buyers and sellers at the centre of everything it does.
We are here to make sure the best economics are at play, that information is crystal clear and timely, and that logistics run smoothly. Buyers need product and they need it on time. That is the service we deliver.
Two friends from KwaZulu-Natal, combining 13 years of shared experience and complementary skills.
James grew up on a farm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. He worked the land, understood the realities of agricultural production, and built close personal relationships with farmers and suppliers across the region. Part of that farm portfolio included macadamia growing — a network no amount of office time can replicate. His career then took him into logistics operations across Southern Africa and into nut brokering in London's commodity markets.
Julian brings strategic and technology expertise built across three continents. His background in financial services consulting has seen him advise organisations in Cape Town, Harare and London on strategy and technology transformation. At LongShips he applies that same thinking to build clear operational processes, backed by technology and automation, that get precise and timely information to clients.
Our on-the-ground team in South Africa manages day-to-day producer relationships, harvest logistics, grading coordination and port operations. Their local presence ensures nothing is lost in translation between field and export container.
Macadamia production is concentrated in Southern Africa's fertile highlands. LongShips aggregates supply from Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, consolidating through the Port of Durban for export to buyers across six global regions.
